To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average legal aid cost per case at(a) the sheriff court in a solemn procedure trial and (b) a High Court trial, where (i) there is one accused and (ii) there is more than one accused.

The information is not available in the form requested. In 1991–92 the average legal aid cost of a case in(a) a Sheriff court solemn procedure trail was £2,049 and in (b) a High Court trial was £5,716.
