§ Mr. Nelson[holding answer 29 January 1993]: Figures on gilt issuance appear in table 3 of the Bank of England "Quarterly Bulletin" for issues published before March 1976 and in table 8 of the Bank of England "Quarterly Bulletin" for issues published between March 1976 and November 1991 inclusive. Figures for 1991 onwards may be found in table 3.5 of Financial Statistics, published by the Central Statistical Office. Figures are published on a quarterly rather than a monthly basis.
Detailed information about the nominal national debt (the total liabilities of the National Loans Fund) is compiled annually. The sterling national debt is published in the February issue of "Financial Statistics" (table S1). The supplementary statements to the Consolidated Fund and the National Loans Fund, published each December 382W as a House of Commons Paper also show the oustanding national debt and its components as at 31 March each year.
