269WHowever, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs discussed the situation with our Community partners. As a result of these discussions, the EC made a demarche to Turkey on 29 January asking it to allow the transit of humanitarian aid through its territory. We have not been assured by the Turkish authorities that they will permit such transit subject to monitoring under standard CSCE procedures.
