To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the average size of primary school, including both infant and junior, and how many one-form entry primary schools exist, by education authority and nationally.

The average size of maintained primary schools in each local education authority area in England in January 1992 is given in the table. Information on the number of maintained primary schools which operate a one-form entry system is not collected centrally.

In January 1992 there were on average 153 pupils in each independent school in England attended mainly by pupils of primary school age. Information on the numbers of such schools which operate a one-form entry system is not collected centrally.
