HC Deb 03 February 1993 vol 218 c223W
24. Mr. Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the contribution of the seed and ware potato industries annually to Scotland.

Sir Hector Monro

Potatoes are an important feature of Scottish farm production which are renowned for their high health status and quality.

Total production is normally in excess of 1 million tonnes annually and worth an estimated £70 million. This represents some 4.5 per cent. of total farm output.
