HC Deb 02 February 1993 vol 218 c92W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what guidelines the Commonwealth Development Corporation has developed to minimise the environmental impacts of tobacco plantations or processing.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

[holding answer 29 January 1993]: Assessment of the environmental aspects of proposed investments is an integral part of the Commonwealth Development Corporation's project appraisal and approval procedures. CDC has agreed that it should make no new investments in tobacco plantations or processing. Past investments were made in accordance with CDC's environmental guidelines which are currently under review.
