Mr. Fraser

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the planned dates of meeting of the ad hoc immigration group and its sub-groups; and what will be the subject matter of its meetings.

The Danish presidency has provisionally allocated a total of 38 days to meetings of the ad hoc working group on immigration and its sub-groups, as follows:

It will be for the Danish presidency to determine the precise agenda for each of these meetings as they arise. In general terms, however, the presidency has indicated that the groups will continue work currently in hand under the immigration and asylum work programme agreed by Ministers at the end of the Dutch presidency in December 1991, including discussions on admission for the purpose of family reunification, admission for the purpose of employment and self-employment, harmonisation of asylum procedures and measures to combat illegal immigration. The presidency has also indicated that the asylum and external frontiers sub-groups will continue work on the preparatory measures required for implementation of the Dublin asylum convention and the draft convention on external frontiers.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the British representatives who will participate in the ad hoc group on immigration and the sub-groups which will operate during the period of the Danish presidency of the European Community.

The United Kingdom delegation to meetings of the ad hoc working group on immigration will be led by Mr. A. R. Rawsthorne, an Assistant Under-Secretary of State in the immigration and nationality department of the Home Office.

The United Kingdom delegation to meetings of sub-groups will be headed by other senior officers of the immigration and nationality department, as follows:
