HC Deb 01 February 1993 vol 218 cc26-7W
12. Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much money has been allocated by his Department to promote the enterprise allowance within Wales in each year since 1987–88.

Sir Wyn Roberts

The enterprise allowance scheme is administered by the TECs who are free to adapt it to local circumstances and who, in recent years, have introduced greater selectivity to ensure that assistance is targeted at those businesses with the most promising plans and prospects. We have made £5.3 million available for this purpose in 1992–93.

With permission, figures for earlier years will be circulated in the Official Report: they total some £.53.4 million.

The figures for earlier years are as follows:

£ million
1987–88 12.0
1988–89 12.9
1989–90 12.4
1990–91 9.0
1991–92 7.1
