HC Deb 01 February 1993 vol 218 cc53-4W
Mr. Cummings

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement concerning coal exports arising from his recently launched initiative encouraging more British companies to export to Europe.

Mr. Eggar

The reports of the independent consultants John T Boyd and Caminus Energy, published on 22 January, comment on the potential for coal exports. The Government will be considering that issue as part of the coal review. The Business in Europe programme recently announced by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade offers a range of help to businesses which have the capability of exporting to Europe.

197. Mr. Cummings

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what representations he has received concerning the future of the coal industry social welfare organisation indoor and outdoor schemes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

The Government have received a number of representations concerning the future of coal industry social welfare arrangements, including such schemes.

We are giving careful consideration to the important and sensitive issues involved.
