HC Deb 17 December 1993 vol 234 c999W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the expenditure in England on resource management in each year since 1988.

Mr. Sackville

The total of funds made available in the years 1988–89 to 1993–94 to regional health authorities, special health authorities, and trusts in England for resource management will be £291.813 million. The amount each year is:

Year £ million
1988–89 2.300
1989–90 20.839
1990–91 68.525
1991–92 86.688
1992–93 83.294
1993–94 30.167

The amount in 1988–89 relates to funds made available to the pilot sites which were part of the resource management initiative. The resource management programme, including a regional infrastructure and the initial allocations to the first wave of acute hospital sites began in 1989–90—hence the increase in funds made available. As sites throughout England have joined the programme and have progressed through the implementation the central funds made available have reflected this pattern. A sum of less than £9 million is expected to be required from central funds in 1994–95 and a final sum of about £0.5 million in 1995–96.
