HC Deb 17 December 1993 vol 234 cc940-1W
Mrs. Ann Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will list(a) the number of staff employed by the National Curriculum Council who were made redundant as a result of the dissolution of that council, (b) the total sum of redundancy payments received by staff employed at the National Curriculum Council and (c) the cost of relocating staff formerly employed by the National Curriculum Council and now employed by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority.

Mr. Robin Squire

A total of 61 former employees of the National Curriculum Council—NCC—were made redundant at a cost of £1.76 million. The eventual cost of relocating former NCC staff who are now employed by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority—SCAA—is estimated at £0.7 million. These one-off costs should be set against estimated annual efficiency savings of £1.4 million as a result of dissolving the NCC and the School Examinations and Assessment Council and establishing the SCAA.
