HL Deb 17 December 1993 vol 550 c155WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How the reduction in the value of the married couple's tax allowance in 1994 and 1995 helps the family and the Government's "Back to Basics" campaign.

The Earl of Caithness

The Government do not believe that the restrictions to the value of the married couple's allowance announced in the last two Budgets will influence people's decisions to marry. Married couples, and unmarried people with children, will still pay less tax than other single people with the same incomes.
