To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will give the percentage of people answering Somali to the ethnic group question in the 1991 census by enumeration district within Tower Hamlets.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will give the figures from the 1981 and 1991 census returns for Tower Hamlets for(a) the method of daily travel-to-work statistics in percentages, (b) the hours worked on average per employed person per week and (c) the numbers of people who have a degree or professional/vocational qualification by type.

The percentage of employees and self-employed people resident in Tower Hamlets travelling to work by various means of transport, as recorded in the 1981 and 1991 censuses, are shown in the table.

The average hours worked per person per week, estimated from the results of the 1991 census for all employees and self employees and self employed in Tower Hamlets, was 36.4. In this estimate, it is assumed that those working 61 hours or more per week worked 70 hours. There are no comparable figures for 1981, as a question on hours worked was not asked in the 1981 census.

The estimated numbers of residents in Tower Hamlets with degrees or professional or vocational qualifications, as recorded in the 1981 and 1991 censuses, are shown in the table.
