HC Deb 17 December 1993 vol 234 cc978-9W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what was the aggregate spending of English and Welsh local authorities on arts and museums for 1989–90, 1990–91 and 1991–92; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

Although no definite figures for local authority expenditure on the arts are available, it is estimated that total spending in England and Wales for 1992–93 amounted to over £200 million.

Total local authority expenditure on museums and galleries in England, as set out in my Department's annual report, is shown in the table.

£ million
1989–90 126
