To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment to what extent the United Kingdom biodiversity action plan is intended to implement the Government's commitment made at the United Nations conference on environment and development to environmental education for sustainable development.

The United Kingdom biodiversity action plan, which is due to be published after the House returns in January, will contain a strategy for the conservation and enhancement of species. A component of this strategy will be the important role of environmental education.
