HC Deb 16 December 1993 vol 234 c911W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has for the Royal Navy's conventional submarine fleet.

Mr. Hanley

The only remaining conventionally powered submarines in service with the Royal Navy are the four vessels of the Upholder class. This year's Statement on the Defence Estimates announced our decision to withdraw these submarines from service by 1995. We are currently examining options for their sale, lease or storage, bearing in mind the investment which they represent.
