HC Deb 16 December 1993 vol 234 c868W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many assaults have been made on prison officers in each Northern Ireland prison in each of the last 24 months; how many prison officers required hospital treatment in each month; and how many assaults in each month were made by(a) loyalist prisoners, (b) republican prisoners and (c) other prisoners.

Sir John Wheeler

The table shows the number of prison officers physically assaulted in Northern Ireland prisons in each of the last 24 months resulting in an absence from duty on medical grounds. Details of officers requiring hospital treatment, and of the affiliation of prisoners who carried out assaults, are not held centrally but will be made available by the end of January.
