To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his Department was consulted by the Greater Glasgow health board about the dismissal of Laurence Peterken; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 2 December 1993]: Officials of the Scottish Office were not consulted by Greater Glasgow health board in relation to the proposed dismissal on 2 November of Mr. Peterken.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the report to be published of the investigation into the dismissal of Mr. Laurence Peterken as general manager of Greater Glasgow health board; and if he will list those consulted in the course of the investigation.

[holding answer 2 December 1993]: The investigation by the chief executive, NHS in Scotland, is not yet completed.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland further to his answer of 25 November,Official Report, column 179, about the appointment of Mr. Peterken to the NHS Management Executive, if he will give details of the issues which Mr. Peterken is to examine.
