Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many people are employed in each division of British Rail on salaries of £30,000 or more at a recent convenient date.

Mr. Freeman

British Rail advises that, as of 15 December 1993, 1,337 people out of a total payroll of 128,800 were employed at salaries of £30,000 or more. This represents 1.04 per cent. of the work force. Further information in the form requested is not available except at disproportionate cost.
