HC Deb 15 December 1993 vol 234 c641W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what consideration he is giving to employees being offered the option of better benefits in return for higher contributions; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will consider combining an improved contributory system for those in employment with a participation income for (a) unpaid carers and (b) people active in voluntary work; and if he will make a statement;

(3) if he will consider abolishing the contributory principle and replace contributory benefits with non-means tested, non-contributory benefits paid out of taxation, to cover unemployment, sickness, maternity and retirement; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hague

I have no plans to do so.
