§ Mr. RedmondTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list by year since 1979 the number of children below 16 years of age killed as a result of road traffic accidents(a) between 7 am and 10 am and (b) between 2 pm and 6 pm when clocks were set at (i) GMT and (ii) BST.

The data indicate that:

- (a) there are more child road deaths in the summer than in the winter and that especially in the summer many more deaths occur in the afternoon, when children are out and about more; arid
- (b) very significant progress has been made over this period in reducing child road casualties but more needs to be done.
