To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on his plans to promote the development in other regions of the scheme operating in Lothian region relating to complaints in sexual offence cases.

[holding answer 9 December 1993]: Arrangements to allocate a nominated police officer to support and liaise with the victim are an integral part of the investigation of allegations of sex offences. As such they are operational matters and the responsibility of the appropriate chief constable. I understand however that similar procedures are observed by all eight Scottish forces.
