HC Deb 13 December 1993 vol 234 c471W
Mr. Denham

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he took to ensure that the World bank and the IMF took full account of reported corruption in Kenya prior to resuming financial assistance.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

We maintain close contact with the World bank and the International Monetary Fund on Kenya and regularly discuss shared concerns, including corruption. We are confident that the IFIs took full account of all relevant factors during their recent review of Kenya's economic position and prospects. At the consultative group meeting last month donors emphasised the need for the Kenya Government to act to ensure that prompt legal action is taken against those involved in corruption.
