HL Deb 13 December 1993 vol 550 c91WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will recommend to the Council of Ministers of the European Union, that a Committee be established to identify measures that could be taken jointly to safeguard persons and property against attacks by agents of the Iranian regime, whether in Europe or at the embassies and offices of private companies of European countries in Iran.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We shall continue to pursue co-operation with our EU partners and other governments to safeguard as far as possible our citizens and Embassies. We and our European partners made clear at the Edinburgh Summit in December 1992 our concern at Iranian behaviour in a number of areas, particularly thefatwa against Salman Rushdie and terrorism.
