Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what percentage of the registered population were covered by general practitioner fundholders in total and in each region at(a) 1 April 1992 and (b) 1 April 1993; and what figure she expects to be achieved by 1 April 1994.

Dr. Mawhinney

At 1 April 1992 13 per cent. of the population were registered with general practitioner fundholders. At 1 April 1993 the figure was 25 per cent. and this is expected to grow to about a third of the population from 1 April 1994.
