HC Deb 10 December 1993 vol 234 c424W
Mr. Gamier

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the Government's policy with regard to the multi-fibre arrangement in the event of the Uruguay round of the GATT not achieving adequate cuts in the high tariff and non-tariff barriers faced by British textile and clothing manufacturers in United Kingdom export markets in the third world and in the emerging economies of the developing world.

Mr. Needham

The Government are working for a balanced outcome to the Uruguay round negotiations as they affect the textile and clothing sector. We have been pressing in particular for a satisfactory outcome reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers as part of an overall settlement including the phase-out of the multi-fibre arrangement and strengthened GATT rules and disciplines.
