HC Deb 10 December 1993 vol 234 c388W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many badgers were shot or gassed in each county in each of the last three years; and how many of these were subsequently shown to have tuberculosis.

Mr. Redwood

The number of badgers killed, following trapping during state veterinary service badger removal operations, in Wales since 1 January 1991 is as follows:

Year Number of badgers killed Number positive
1991 22 0
1992
11993 10 0
1 Up to 6 December 1993.

The figures relate to the county of Dyfed. No badgers have been killed by the state veterinary service in any other county in Wales in the last three years. The legal gassing of badgers ceased on 26 June 1982.
