HC Deb 09 December 1993 vol 234 c321W
Ms Primarolo

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans she has for developing equal opportunities in primary care; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

Family health services authorities continue to make good progress with the Opportunity 2000 initiative. Their action plans are submitted to regional health authorities and have concerned their own directly employed staff. We believe that the principles of Opportunity 2000 can be pursued to good effect within general medical practice. Although general practitioners are independent contractors and responsible for their own staff, they may look to FHSAs for support and expertise.
