HL Deb 08 December 1993 vol 550 c75WA
Lord McColl of Dulwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What assistance they are giving to enable the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to respond to emergency situations this year.

Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish

My noble friend the Minister for Overseas Development has approved an additional contribution to UNHCR of £1.35 million (equivalent to $2 million) to help replenish their Emergency Fund. This will enable UNHCR to continue to make initial responses to emergencies, in advance of putting together a longer term assistance programme.

Britain's overall contributions to UNHCR activities this year now amount to £50.75 million.
