Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total budget allocated by his Department in 1992–93 to urban development corporations in(a) Teesside, (b) Tyne and Wear and (c) the United Kingdom as a whole.

The answer is as follows:

  1. (a) £40.3 million grant in aid;
  2. (b) £44.1 million grant in aid;
  3. (c) the 12 English urban development corporations and the docklands light railway) received grant in aid of £515.8 million.

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and for Northern Ireland are responsible for grant in aid paid to the Cardiff Bay and Laganside development corporations respectively.
