To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many files marked "Not for NAO eyes" are held by the Department; and how many are marked "Not for PAC eyes".

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many files marked "Not for National Audit Office eyes" are held by his Department.

§ Mr. Nelson
holding answer 3 December 1993]: Of the Treasury's 93,168 files dating from January 1987, 211 bear the marking "Not for NAO eyes".
This marking is used in accordance with an agreement between the Treasury and the National Audit Office, under 21W which documents relating to the handling of relations between Departments and the NAO and PAC are not automatically available to the NAO while they are current.
There is no marking "Not for PAC eyes".
