HC Deb 03 December 1993 vol 233 cc797-8W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what guidance she issues to NHS trusts about the salaries of chief executives; and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave the hon. Member for Bristol, South (Ms Primarolo) on 5 November at column535.

Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the NHS status of trust hospitals and where their ownership lies.

Dr. Mawhinney

Trusts remain fully part of the national health service. They are accountable through the NHS management executive to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health. They are also accountable to NHS purchasers through contracts for service delivery. Each NHS trust is a body corporate and has ownership of its land, buildings and other property.
