§ Sir Patrick MayhewThe Government's policy is to uphold the democratically expressed wishes of the people of Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom; this is recognised in national and international law. There will be no change to that position unless or until that is the wish of a majority of the people of Northern Ireland.
