HC Deb 02 December 1993 vol 233 c644W
Ms Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the transport implications of the United Kingdom Government's abstention on the vote for a permanent world-wide ban on nuclear waste dumping at sea at the London convention meeting in November; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norris

The United Kingdom is currently considering what declarations may need to be made to the International Maritime Organisation in respect of the resolution prohibiting the sea disposal of radioactive waste. The transport of radioactive materials, including radioactive waste, is a separate issue, subject to stringent international safety standards.
