HC Deb 02 December 1993 vol 233 c662W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what contribution his Department has made to the kickstart programme of Legal and General; and if he will promote moves towards a national network of kickstart clubs, in an attempt to steer youngsters away from crime.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The Home Office is providing £500,000 this year to the core running costs of Crime Concern, the national crime prevention organisation which has established the kickstart youth activity clubs, with funding from Legal and General. Crime Concern was specifically set up by the Government to seek sponsorship from the private sector for crime prevention projects.

The kickstart scheme was launched nationally by Crime Concern on 14 May 1993. We fully support the work of Crime Concern in this area, and generally, to steer young people away from crime.
