HC Deb 02 December 1993 vol 233 c686W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many disabled people in(a) Inverclyde and (b) Strathclyde currently benefit from the special aids to employment scheme; and how many disabled people he expects to lose their jobs once employers have to pay 50 per cent. of the cost of special aids in the work place.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 30 November 1993]: The numbers of disabled people receiving benefit from the special aids to employment scheme in Inverclyde and Strathclyde respectively are: (a) 2; (b) 68. Changes to the Employment Service's current special schemes for helping people with disabilities, and which include the introduction of a limited employers' contribution, to provide help for existing employees who have worked for them for more than six months, are aimed at helping more people with disabilities to get and retain jobs and at making a much wider range of help available. The Employment Service is currently finalising details of these changes with these aims in mind.
