HC Deb 01 December 1993 vol 233 cc637-8W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he or his officials last discussed the subject of the current circumstances surrounding the Gourock rope works, Port Glasgow, and its future with representatives of Historic Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Hector Monro

[holding answer 30 November 1993]Historic Scotland, as an executive agency responsible to my right hon. Friend, reports to me for my interest in the Gourock rope works as a listed building.

Historic Scotland officials had a meeting with officials of Inverclyde district council regarding the rope works building on 12 August. Regular communication has been maintained since then. I hope the future of the category A listed building will be made secure by a scheme for its restoration.

I shall write to the hon. Member as matters develop.
