HC Deb 01 December 1993 vol 233 c587W
Mr. Welsh

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what further steps she envisages to tackle nuclear waste dumping at sea arising out of the London convention meeting in November of the International Maritime Organisation; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Jack

The consultative meeting of the London convention held on 8-12 November agreed to introduce a ban on the disposal of radioactive waste at sea. The United Kingdom abstained from the vote. We are currently considering the implications of the convention's decision on this matter, but we have no immediate plans to carry out sea dumping of radioactive waste.
