To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many serving members of(a) the Royal Navy, (b) the RAF and (c) the Army were discharged from the services, having gone absent without leave, in each year since 1986.

Personnel are not usually discharged from the services for going absent without leave. Records of any such discharges are not maintained centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. Details of personnel dismissed following court martial or summary proceedings for offences involving absence without leave, however, are as follows:
