Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster which component body of the Natural Environment Research Council carries out its geological activities; and which other bodies carry on geological activities of a substantially similar kind to those carried on by the Natural Environment Research Council.

Mr. Robert Jackson

The British Geological Survey, within the Natural Environment Research Council, undertakes geological activities. There is no other comparable organisation in the United Kingdom, although there are equivalent bodies in various other countries.
