Mrs. Lait

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to her answer of 16 February,Official Report, column 159, if she will place in the Library the list of the 1,776 drugs that are currently available on the national health service for the treatment of skin complaints.

Dr. Mawhinney

A list of the drugs dispensed for the treatment of skin complaints, by community pharmacists, dispensing doctors and prescribing doctors for personal administration, in England in 1991, has been placed in the Library.

Ms Coffey

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations she has received about the proposed selected list for prescribable medications used in the treatment of skin disease; and what consultations are taking place with clinicians.

Dr. Mawhinney

A number of representations have been received from patients and organisations representing those who suffer with skin diseases. This information will be available to the independent advisory committee that provides advice on which drugs should not be prescribable by general practitioners under the National Health Service. The committee, whose members include experienced clincians, is free to seek whatever advice it wishes.
