HC Deb 22 April 1993 vol 223 c196W
Mr. Mullin

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he has taken to enforce the law outlawing embryotomy on lambs in the womb; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Soames

Embryotomy is sometimes performed on dead lambs in the womb in the welfare interest of the ewe. However, the Department is not aware of any evidence to suggest that embryotomy is performed on live lambs.

Should anyone have such evidence, it should be reported immediately to the state veterinary service.
