To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will accept the recommendations of the medical manpower standing advisory committee contained in its report, "Planning the Medical Workforce".

I am pleased to be able to announce that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has accepted this Committee's recommendations and has written to Professor Campbell, the chairman of the Medical Manpower Standing Advisory Committee, today to thank him and the committee for their helpful report. The target intake for medical students in the United Kingdom will be increased to 4,470 from October 1994.
