HC Deb 21 April 1993 vol 223 c124W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will consider holding centrally information on national health service premises which fail to hold a valid fire certificate.

Mr. Sackville

Local fire authorities are responsible for enforcing fire precautions in those parts of national health service premises designated under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 which require a fire certificate. It would be inappropriate for this information to be collected by the Department.

For clinical areas and other parts of hospitals not requiring a fire certificate general managers and chief executives are required to confirm to the Department that their fire precaution arrangements have been agreed with the local fire authority.
