To ask the Lord President of the Council how many staff are employed in his Department; for what purposes and at what cost; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

The Privy Council Office has 32 staff. Of these, 12 are employed in the private offices of the Lord Privy Seal and the Lord President. The remaining staff provide administrative support for the Privy Council, including the Judicial Committee. In 1992–93, the cost of staff salaries was £720,000.
