HL Deb 15 April 1993 vol 544 cc88-9WA
Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Brewers' Society or Guinness plc have drawn their attention to the case brought by the Inspector of Weights and Measures, Bristol Corporation, before the Bristol Magistrates' Court on 17th February 1964.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

The Brewers' Society and Guinness both referred to this case in their representations about Section 43 of the Weights and Measures Act 1985.

Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations they have received from Guinness plc regarding the Weights and Measures Act 1985, and what were the dates, format and substance of any such representations.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

Guinness wrote to the Department of Economic Development in Northern Ireland about Section 43 of the Weights and Measures Act 1985 on 17th February and 13th March 1992 and 8th March 1993, and to the Department of Trade and Industry on 7th February 1992. Guinness has consistently opposed the implementation of Section 43.
