To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to the oral statement by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Bolton, West (Mr. Sackville), on 24 March,Official Report, column 1208, if she will indicate the evidence underlying the statement that in April 1991 the baseline cost of general practitioner fund holders' prescribing of medicines was 10 per cent. less than that of non-fund holders' prescribing.

The Prescription Pricing Authority data show that in April 1991 the cost of non-fund holders' prescribing was £3.88 per person and that of fund holders was £3.49 per person.
