To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the daily or weekly cost to his Department of maintaining a person in an old people's home.

For the year ended 31 March 1992 the average cost of maintaining a resident in a home for the elderly administered by the Northern Ireland health and social services boards was £227 per week. This figure excludes capital and central administration costs.
