Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what estimate has been made of the number of squatters in each of the Cregagh, Ballybeen, Belvoir, Tullycarnet, Downshire, Braniel, Carryduff and Twinbrook estates; and what percentage these squats represent of the total housing stock in each estate.

Mr. Atkins

This is a matter for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and I am advised by its chief executive that at 1 March 1993 there were no squatters in Cregagh, Ballybeen, Belvoir, Tullycarnet, Downshire, Braniel or Carryduff estates. There were 44 squatters in the Twinbrook estate which represents 3.2 per cent. of the total housing stock in that estate.

Mr. Peter Robinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons are employed in the special debt recovery unit of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive; and how many staff go out to tenants to collect rent arrears.

Mr. Atkins

I am advised by the chief executive of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive that the executive does not maintain a special debt recovery unit.

The executive employs 486 housing officers in its offices throughout the Province to deal with estate management issues, including arrears recovery.
