To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what initiatives he is planning through the United Nations to end the fighting in Angola.

In accordance with the mandate conferred by United Nations Security Council resolution 811 of 12 March, the United Nations Secretary General is now consulting the Government of Angola and UNITA to establish the date, place and agenda for direct UNITA/Government of Angola talks under United Nations auspices. We are actively supporting his efforts.
